Doing laundry in residence is easy as 1, 2, 3!

1. Purchase your laundry card

Buy your card ($5) at the card reload centre in your residence commonsblock.

If you’re moving into Place Vanier, Ritsumeikan-UBC House, Totem Park or Walter Gage, you’ll receive your laundry card in your check-in package. Orchard Commons residents will use the Sparkle app instead of a laundry card.

2. Add money to your card

Add money to your card in increments of $10, $20 or $50.

3. It’s laundry time!

Use your card at the laundry machines located in your residence building.

  • Wash:
    • $1.25 (cold)
    • $1.50 (warm/hot)
  • Dry:
    • 60¢ (first 30 minutes)
    • 15¢ (15-minute top-up)

How much can I expect to spend on laundry total?

Costs will vary based on how many loads of laundry you need to do, what kind of clothing you’re washing/drying, if you choose cold water or hot, and if you will use the dryer or hang dry your clothing.

  • Weekly estimate: budget $5–$10 per week (two to four loads of laundry, including up to one hour of dryer time per load).
  • 8-month total: based on the weekly estimate, expect to spend between $150 and $300 between September and April (for 8-month, Winter Session residents).
  • 12-month total: based on the weekly estimate, expect to spend between $260 and $520 per year (for 12-month, Year Round residents).
Pro Tip

Use cold water and liquid detergent for maximum washing benefits.

  • Exchange—located on the bottom floor of each building; shared in-suite washer/dryer in townhouses.
  • Fairview— located in each residence area.
  • Fraser Hall—located on the main floor.
  • Iona House—located in each building.
  • Marine Drive—located on the ground level of each building.
  • Orchard Commons—located in each house.
  • Place Vanier—located in each house.
  • Ponderosa Commons—located in each house.
  • Ritsumeikan-UBC House—located in each residence building.

In Acadia Park, machines are available for suites in townhouses, Sopron House and Point Grey Apartments. Laundry rooms are located in all other buildings.
