We are so excited that you are going to be living in Year Round residence! Whether you’re a new or returning resident, make the most of your time by following this guide to get set up.

Pre-arrival checklist

Here are some to-dos before moving into residence.

First things first—did you accept your offer? Residence offers are sent by email and you will want to make sure you accept your offer and pay your first instalment of residence fees by the deadline.
Apply for a UBCcard if you don’t have one.

Make the most out of life at UBC

Check out these 10 tips for making the most out of living in residence.

Purchase a UBCcard Value Plan to save 5% on food and non-alcoholic beverages at a ton of locations on campus, including dining halls, cafes and restaurants. It can also be used for printing and vending machines. Once you get your UBCcard, start by loading $5 or more through the SHCS online service centre, then start saving at UBC Food Services locations—easy as pie.
Buy or order bed and bath linens and check out what to bring and what not to bring when you move in.
Get renter’s insurance to protect yourself and your belongings.
Become familiar with your rights and responsibilities as a resident within the residence community. Review important Residence Standards—including your residence contract—and read up on some tips for living with roommates.
As part of your student fees, you get a U-Pass, which gives you unlimited access to transit in the Lower Mainland. If you still need parking, limited spaces are available so remember to apply for a residence parking space.

If you live in Year Round Housing, you can apply to sublet your room to other eligible UBC students during the summer (May–August).
