tə šxʷhəleləm̓s tə k̓ʷaƛ̓kʷəʔaʔɬ (The Houses of the Ones Belonging to the Saltwater) is our newest residence community at UBC. The xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nation generously gifted the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓-language residence and house names to UBC in spring 2021.
In September 2021, q̓əlɬaləməcən leləm̓ (Orca House) and qʷta:yθən leləm̓ (Sturgeon House) opened, with sɬewət̕ leləm̓ (Herring House) opening in January 2022 and təməs leləm̓ (Sea Otter House) and sqimək̓ʷ leləm̓ (Octopus House) opening in April 2022.
Providing housing for nearly 750 students in a revitalized area of campus alongside Walter Gage, Brock Commons and Exchange residences, tə šxʷhəleləm̓s tə k̓ʷaƛ̓kʷəʔaʔɬ is just steps away from the UBC bus exchange, Aquatic Centre, and Student Recreation Centre. The AMS Nest, UBC Life Building and many other campus amenities are also right nearby.

The hub for residence activities. Includes: Wi-Fi, activity and meeting rooms, group and private study spaces, lounge areas, games room, fitness room, and music practice rooms.

Sort It Out!
We strive to be a zero waste campus. tə šxʷhəleləm̓s tə k̓ʷaƛ̓kʷəʔaʔɬ has a large sorting area with collection bins for compost, household trash, recyclables, e-waste, and charitable donations.
Laundry Facilities
Machines operate on a convenient card system—no need to worry about coins. Facilities are located on the bottom floor of your building.
Parking & Bicycle Storage
Limited monthly parking is available nearby for a fee. Bike storage hooks are available in each suite, except in q̓əlɬaləməcən leləm̓ (Orca House), which has a bike storage room in the basement.
Outdoor Facilities
Basketball, tennis courts, playing fields and beaches are easily accessible. Nearby Pacific Spirit Regional Park has over 35 kilometres of multipurpose trails to explore.
Health & Safety
Residents have access to a campus medical clinic and safety programs such as SafeWalk. There are regular nightly patrols of residence properties.
Meal Plan
Suites in tə šxʷhəleləm̓s tə k̓ʷaƛ̓kʷəʔaʔɬ come with kitchens. Students can purchase an optional meal plan for convenience—no need to cook or carry cash.

The tə šxʷhəleləm̓s tə k̓ʷaƛ̓kʷəʔaʔɬ Residence Life team consists of one Residence Life Manager and Residence Advisors, plus numerous Front Desk staff who work hard to promote a safe, inclusive and enjoyable community for residents.
