On March 30, 2016, UBC celebrated the opening of Phase 2 and completion of Ponderosa Commons.
This 2-phase construction project, located at University Boulevard between Lower Mall and West Mall, includes student residence housing (1153 beds), academic and research space for the Faculties of Arts and Education along with other amenities and administrative units. Harvest, a new grocery store, is also included in the Phase 2 build.
Speakers at the official opening included Alec Dan, Musqueam Representative; Dr. Blye Frank, Dean, Faculty of Education; Dr. Martha Piper, Interim President & Vice-Chancellor; Lindsay Gordon, Chancellor; Andrew Parr, Managing Director, SHHS; Bree Fraser, Student, School of Kinesiology.
The architecture was completed by KPMB Architects in joint venture with HCMA Architecture + Design.
