Check out the arrival instructions for Ponderosa Commons below—and don’t miss our orientation video for students moving into upper-year residence!

Arriving by taxi?

Your taxi driver can drop you off at Ponderosa Commons (off West Mall).

Arriving by bus?

Once you arrive at the campus bus loop, the easiest way to get to Ponderosa Commons is to walk west across campus. It’s about a 10–15 minute walk.

Arriving by car?

Step 1

Once you arrive at UBC, make your way to Ponderosa Commons (off West Mall), where one of our staff will give you an unloading pass and direct you to an unloading area.

Step 2

After you park in the unloading area, head over to the nearby check-in desk to check in, get your welcome package, and sign out a sanitized red cart to help you with your move. Leave your belongings at your car for now, but don’t forget to bring your government-issued photo ID.

Step 3

Load up your move-in cart, get your mask ready (you’ll need to wear it inside residence today), and with your one designated helper, you’re ready to move in.

What if I arrive late?

Arriving after 4 pm? No problem! When you arrive, you can temporarily park in the unloading area on West Mall and go directly to the front desk to check in.

Health & safety FAQ

Do I need to wear a mask?

We ask that you bring and wear a mask when you move into residence, for the safety and consideration of everyone. In fact, we strongly encourage mask use indoors and outdoors whenever you may be in contact with others.

How many people can help me move in?

You can bring one person to accompany you in the residence buildings when you move in, in order to minimize the number of people in residence spaces at any one time.

We recognize that moving into residence is often a celebration for families and that you may want to bring more than one person with you. While only one designated individual can enter residence buildings with you, other members of your group are welcome to enjoy the campus.

Should I practice physical distancing?

Yes, please follow physical distancing guidelines. You will find helpful floor markings, decals, posters and signage to assist. Common areas are set up to encourage and allow for proper physical distancing.
