In addition to the primary eligibility criteria, to be eligible to live in Summer Residence you must be a full-time student who meets the academic credit load requirements (with limited exceptions, outlined below) and maintain good standing with UBC and Student Housing.
Residences and room types
- Residences: Fairview Crescent.
- Room types: One bedroom or a single room in a shared four or six bedroom unit.

Minimum age requirement: 19 years old
Academic credit load requirements
At basic, students offered a contract in Summer Residence must be registered in sufficient coursework at UBC Vancouver during either the same Summer Session or in Term 2 of the preceding Winter Session.
Registration in Summer Session
You are registered in sufficient coursework during the Summer Session—either 6 credits of undergraduate coursework or a full-time graduate program.
Registration in preceding Winter Session
You were registered full-time during Term 2 of the preceding Winter Session at UBC Vancouver (i.e., January to April).
You may have lived in either Winter Session or Year Round Residence, but you are not required to have lived in residence on-campus.
Please note that first consideration for Summer Residence offers will be given to UBC students who are registered in Summer Session or who were registered in the preceding Winter Session.
Other eligible students will be assigned based on availability.
Other eligible students
There are two types of students who do not need to meet the academic credit load requirements:
UBC students employed by UBC in a research capacity
If you are a UBC student employed during the Summer Session by a UBC department in a research capacity, you are not required to meet the academic credit load requirement.
Additional documentation: you must provide proof of employment, such as a copy of your appointment notice.
Students from another university performing UBC-directed research
If you are full-time student from another university who is performing research directed by a UBC department, you are not required to meet the academic credit load requirement.
Additional documentation: you must provide proof of UBC sponsorship or employment and proof of your student status, including your student number, at your home university.
