Typically, students are not eligible to move in prior to their scheduled contract start date.
If you are planning to arrive in Vancouver early, you’ll need to plan where you’ll be staying prior to your move in day. Staying with friends and family or in a short-term accommodation are good options.
Students moving into Winter Session residence, who are participating in select early-starting UBC programs may inquire about the possibility of an earlier arrival date.
First year students participating in Jump Start–you do not need to apply to arrive early; you are automatically scheduled to move in on Jump Start Move In Day.
Eligible groups
The following groups may apply to be considered for an early arrival. Please note, that eligibility does not guarantee an early arrival request will be approved.
- Students in early-starting academic programs—you need to apply for early arrival.
- Varsity athletes participating in early-starting team practices (officially approved by UBC Athletics and Recreation)—you need to apply for early arrival.
- Indigenous students of Canada attending a welcome/orientation event hosted by the First Nations House of Learning—you need to apply for early arrival.
Additional eligibility requirements
- You will be living in a Winter Session residence.*
- You submitted your Winter Session residence application by the applicable deadline.
- You submitted all required residence and meal plan payment(s) prior to the applicable deadline(s).
- You apply to arrive early by the applicable deadline.
*Residents moving into Year Round residence are not eligible to move in early. Please make alternative arrangements if you will be arriving in Vancouver prior to your scheduled move-in date.
